Win / place / show payout
If your horse wins, you collect $7.00 — that's $5.00 profit.
A place bet (1st or 2nd) pays roughly $4.00; a show bet (top 3) roughly $3.25.
The crowd thinks this horse wins about 29% of the time.
Honest caveat: place and show have their own pools, so exact payouts depend on which horses hit the board. The rule of thumb here is place ≈ 40% and show ≈ 25% of the win profit, plus your stake back — the tote board's will-pays are the real answer.
Exotics: box and key
Exacta box (3 horses): $6.00
Trifecta box (3 horses): $6.00
Exacta key (1 over 3): $3.00
Trifecta key (1 over 3): $6.00
A box covers every finishing order of your horses; a key bets one horse to win with the others filling the minor spots — cheaper, but your key has to win.
Daily Double / Pick 3 cost
Daily Double ticket (2 × 3 horses): $6.00
You're picking the winner of back-to-back races, and every combination is its own ticket — the legs multiply, so spreading out gets expensive fast. Leave leg 3 empty for a Daily Double.
